5th Invasion

[Hey look, a certain denizen of the ocean finally figured out how to use the telephone after almost an entire month of living in Mayfield!  Squid Girl's voice comes ringing over the lines loud and clear, and also completely unfiltered.  Hey, let's not ask for miracles, okay?  It's amazing she even made it this far on her own.  Anyway, she's excited as heck, and about to make a huge announcement.]

"Attention, people of Mayfield!  This is Squid Girl speaking!  I am pleased to announce that I have just formed an unofficial alliance with the nation of Taiwan - it's called the Squid Girl-Taiwanese Unofficial Alliance!  I've also been informed that there's no ocean here to pollute, so I've decided to protect whatever water there is in Mayfield, starting with that pond in the park!  If you pollute it, you'll have to answer to both me and my new ally!  And if anyone messes with one of us, you'll now have to fight us both!  So do the smart thing and give up now - there's no way you'll be able to resist our combined powers!"

[At this point, there's a few seconds of silence.  She's trying to think of something cool to say to wrap this thing up.]

"...That is all!"

[Totally nailed it.]

And we'll find out how, soon, anyway. _{[ She finishes off her drawing by writing "Squid Girl, the messenger of the sea!" in cute lettering right below it. ]}

"Oh! So we just won't tell them! That makes sense."

[smilesmile as she looks at the drawing]

You have to give people what they want to get what you want. _{[ That's how she's been corrupting governments I mean establishing clean diplomatic relations in Oceania after all. She holds the drawing up for her to see. ]} That's how you do things on the surface world.

[Looks the drawing over thoughtfully.]

"Huh. And here I was just gonna invade."

_{[ Lowers the drawing a little. ]}

Why would you invade us?

I was mad about the ocean getting polluted, and I thought that would be the best way to make people listen. But I didn't know there were so many people on the surface. I thought there would be maybe like a thousand or so?

[naicha]

_{[ "A thousand!" She said "a thousand!" ]}

There are better ways to make people listen to you, you know!

Yeah, that's what people have been saying. Actually, living here is the first time this many people have listened to what I have to say! There are so many nice people in this town!

If only there were more people like them in the world, huh? <sub>[ She puts the drawing of Heartcatch Pretty Squid and her cute lobster aside.

...Why don't they listen to you? You're like a whole country, aren't you?

Exactly! I tell them I'm a country, but they won't believe me--or they don't want to believe me because teacher told them not to, and he's a meanie, and--and, and, a few countries think I'm one of them, but that's still not enough to get anyone to listen!

That's stupid! Those other countries sound like a bunch of jerks!

Right? But it's not their fault. Every country has to look out for himself, you know, so it's not hard to understand why they're like that.

Still... I gotta keep trying! I gotta get out of here and keep trying.

[This is reminding Squid Girl so very much of her own plight! Now she likes Taiwan even more. So have some sympathetic frowns.]

"Don't worry, I bet they'll all pay attention to you someday."

_{[ Now, Taiwan doesn't have many allies and only a handful have ever told her anything like that. There are a lot of things that discourage her here in Mayfield and back at home, but she can't help but smile at Squid Girl's words. ]}

If it's a goal of mine, I'll definitely reach it.

_{[ She then gets a few sheets of paper and gives half to Squid Girl. ]}

But only if I work hard, you know? You should, too. C'mon, we gotta make enough posters and stuff to put up around town, then we'll talk about your next speech!

[And of course, Squid Girl is far too stupid and uninformed to know anything at all about the state of international politics, so she's really just running on her personal impression of Taiwan here. But she's been so nice and supportive of her that she really has no reason to think that everyone shouldn't like her just as much!]

"Right! We have to work really hard to spread our message! Pretty soon we'll have the whole town on our side!"

[So she eagerly takes up some markers and starts drawing more pictures for the new posters. She's not too good at writing, so she'll leave the wordsmithing to Taiwan.

But yeah - congratulations, Taiwan. You have a one-squid fanclub over here. She is going to follow you around everywhere now.]
