14th Invasion

[Today after school lets out, Squid Girl can be found on the front lawn of 452 Stone Street doing some combat practice - or rather, that's what she thinks she's doing.  To the casual observer, it looks more like she's dangerously flailing ten kitchen knives all over the place with her tentacles while yelling various things.]

"Hah!  Take that!  Feel the power of my Ten Bladed Whirlwind technique!"

[She alternates through a couple of different routines: stabbing wildly at thin air, hurling the knives into a nearby tree before reaching out with her tentacles to draw them back out again, and just spinning them around in a dangerous circle all around her body.  Someone might want to stop her before she hurts herself or somebody else.]

[Waves a single tentacle near Shana sort of reluctantly.]

"...Make sure you give it back, okay?"

[Shana takes a knife, and will whirl it around in a motion with all the skill of a swordsperson that has been trained from youth in battle.] "Thank you." [she hands it back, flipping it to offer it hilt-first to Squid girl] "For the first time since I've been here I just felt like myself."

[Watches in amazement!]

"Wow!"

[Jumping and clapping after Shana's done.]

"Can you show me how to do that?"

"Of course. But it would require several years to teach you how to do so properly."

But if you count my hands too, I have six times as many places to hold swords as you do. Which means I can learn six times as fast!

"The amount of hands isn't important. I could defeat you with one knife right this moment." [She takes a breath.] "What is important is to feel your opponent's 'kill', and then avoid it, then feel your own kill. Once you can do that, you can fight as well as anyone. The key is not to close your eyes."

"Why would I make something like that up? I'm being serious here, the least you should do is listen to me seriously."

"Not... exactly. What I'm trying to teach you is awareness of your foe. In order to beat them you have to know what they're doing, so you can counter it, or kill them before they managed to do it."

I don't want to kill anyone! I'm just trying to win a fight.

"You realize the most direct method to winning a fight -is- to kill the foe, right? But.. if you're not trying to kill someone, ah.... well, I can help with that too. The concepts are the same but using knives is not exactly the best way to -avoid- killing someone in a fight. Sharp edges." [she gestures to one of Squiddy's knives]

But he's going to use swords against me when we fight again, so I thought I should counterattack with something like that.

"Who is he? Another part of winning a fight is knowing how best to defeat your foe."

Gilgamesh, King of Heroes. Or that's what he keeps saying, anyway.

[She sniffs]

"That's a pretentious sounding title for anyone who isn't a flame haze. What sort of person is he?"

[She chuckles briefly]

"Anyway, let's get back to teaching you how to beat him down then."

Okay! So what do I do first?

"Find me a long stick or mop handle so that I can swing something without hurting you badly."

"Okay, hang on!"

[And into the house she runs, emerging a minute or so later carrying a mop handle. Where the rest of the mop went, who knows. She's got one tentacle tightly wrapped around all ten knives from earlier.]

"Here!"

[Shana takes it in two hands, holding it like a sword. She squares up on Ika, yells a single word] "Defend!" [and hurtles towards her, swinging an overhand two-handed swing that if it connects with give squidgirl a good thump on her forehead.]
